Painting Tips

Run caulking along gaps in the corners of walls and along trim and crown molding as well. This will give you a neat and accurate trim line.

Paint is much easier to clean when it is still wet, so keep a damp rag handy to clean as you go.

Always paint in a well ventilated room.

Line paint trays with aluminum foil or slip small trash bags over the trays to save on cleaning time.

Start on the underside of each step's overhang, leaving the risers and treads last, when painting stairs.

Always follow label instructions for storing paint.

Avoid direct contact with skin.

Always keep containers closed when not in use.

Keep paint out of reach of children.

When painting ceilings, paint the width instead of the length. This will prevent one lap from drying before you paint the next.

Use masking tape and newspaper to protect surrounding objects and edges from being damaged by paint.

When painting an entire room, begin with the ceilings first. Paint splattered on the walls can be cleaned up or painted over later.

Never stop painting mid-wall; stopping while in the middle of painting a wall will leave a visible paint mark when the job is finished.
